Glaive

Glaive’s second to last album is called “I Care So Much That I Don’t Care At All,” and judging by the big grin on his face throughout his show at The Independent in San Francisco on January 15th, that sentiment is a big fat lie. Glaive looked like he cared a lot, and his fans cared just as much, waving their cellphones at him and dancing and yelling lyrics to him through his entire set.
The show was sold out and the crowd was excited to hear lots of material from the newest album being toured, tracks like “For God and Country,” “Freudian,” and “joel,” plus lots of older favorites like “ik” and “60.000 isk” and “as if.” He even got into the pit for a minute to sing a piece of “Everydog Has Its Day” but he hopped out pretty fast when the situation got tight with fan affection. He played a few remixes in the set, coming back around to a techno version of “ik” to close out the night that got everybody super energized before they left the building.
It’s hard to nail down Glaive’s sound, but it’s diverse, and emotional, and his lyrics were clearly getting felt by the fans who are very devoted to him. The stage was dark the whole time, with Glaive spotlit in front of a big backdrop mid-stage stage with a projector throwing visuals behind him, which was pretty dramatic but not the easiest conditions for the photographers in the house to work with. This was “An evening with Glaive,” so no opener, and he came out a half hour after showtime which gave the crowd a little extra time to get situated and buy merch.
The 21 songs could have turned into 41 and everybody there would have been happy, and anybody who’s on the fence about going to a show on this tour don’t hesitate, it’s a great time. For all the latest check out www.glaivemusic.com.
