Shakira Proves Her Hips and Her Legacy Still Don’t Lie
From the moment Shakira strutted onto the stage at Oracle Park, it was clear the Colombian icon still had all of her fire. Backed by a live band, a sea of dancers, and a massive screen flashing psychedelic visuals, the global superstar launched into a high-octane, two-hour set that spanned decades, genres, and emotions.
Her opening moments were pure theater: emerging from the crowd in a shimmering tracksuit, she joined two musicians for a stripped-down version of “La Fuerte,” setting an intimate tone before shifting gears into a glittering dance medley. By the third song, a powerful one-two punch of “Las de la Intuición” and “Estoy Aquí,” Shakira had ignited a kinetic force onstage, flanked by six dancers and a roaring crowd.
She performed more than 20 songs, seamlessly weaving together reggaeton bangers, rock en español deep cuts, and heartfelt ballads. Her choreography was as sharp and sensual as ever—hips swiveling, belly dancing on “Ojos Así,” wielding knives on “Whenever, Wherever,” and even pulling off a tasteful pole routine during “Soltera.”
Vocally, she was in top form. “Acróstico” was delivered unplugged at the end of the runway, with footage of her sons Milan and Sasha projected behind her. Later, during an unplanned acoustic rendition of “Underneath Your Clothes,” the arena fell silent—a rare moment of stillness in an otherwise relentlessly high-energy show.
The setlist was a masterclass in balance. Nostalgic hits like “Hips Don’t Lie” and “Waka Waka”—the latter sending couples time-traveling to the World Cup summer of 2010—stood beside newer anthems like “Te Felicito” and “BZRP Music Sessions, Vol. 53.” Shakira honored her rock roots with a blistering guitar solo during “Pies Descalzos, Sueños Blancos,” thrilling longtime fans.
A standout visual moment came when she performed “Chantaje” live from her dressing room, only to emerge moments later in a dramatic corset inspired by her She Wolf era. The final stretch featured a towering inflatable wolf with glowing eyes and strobe-light breath as she closed with the defiant “BZRP Music Sessions,” dressed in a skin-tight pink bodysuit. Confetti rained down along with faux $100 bills stamped with her image as fans erupted.
Despite the impressive production, some visuals felt flat—likely AI-generated and lacking in creative nuance. With an artist of Shakira’s caliber, investing in original animation would not only elevate the aesthetic but support other creatives in the process.
Still, these were small blemishes on an otherwise spectacular night. The show wasn’t just a concert—it was a full-bodied tribute to Shakira’s legacy. Her journey from Barranquilla to global superstardom, her ability to evolve across eras, and her relentless authenticity were on full display.
If Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran is a statement of strength, this tour is its living embodiment. Shakira doesn’t just perform—she commands, connects, and reminds us that in a world that often forgets, true artistry endures.
And yes—her hips still don’t lie.
