On April 4, 2025, Hard Rock Live in Wheatland, California, played host to an electrifying night of heavy metal as Trivium and Bullet For My Valentine brought their “Poisoned Ascendancy Tour” to life. The atmosphere was charged with anticipation as fans of both bands gathered to witness a powerful evening of music that promised to be unforgettable.

August Burns Red and Sylosis were the opening bands for the night. Then Bullet For My Valentine took the stage with a raw energy that instantly captivated the audience. BFMV had headlined the previous night at The Masonic in San Francisco, so they were slotted in the third position at Hard Rock. The band kicked off their set with the explosive track “Her Voice Resides,” setting a high bar for the rest of the evening. Frontman Matt Tuck’s commanding presence and soaring vocals were complemented by the intricate guitar work of Michael “Padge” Paget, who delivered riffs that resonated throughout the venue.

BFMV showcased a well-rounded setlist that spanned their 27-year discography, featuring fan favorites like “Tears Don’t Fall” and “Hit the Floor.” The crowd sang along passionately, creating a sense of unity that is often the hallmark of a great metal concert. BFMV charged up the fans, and the circle pit spread like wildfire. The last song of the set was “The End,” off their 2005 album The Poison. The crowd wasn’t having it, and they chanted loudly for an encore. BFMV came out and hit us hard with two more songs: “Knives” and “Waking the Demon” to end a perfect set.

Their performance was not just a display of technical prowess but also an emotional journey that resonated deeply with the audience, proving that Bullet For My Valentine continues to evolve while staying true to their roots.

Trivium:

Following a brief interlude of “The End of Everything,” Trivium took the stage to an eruption of cheers. The band opened with “Rain,” off their 2005 album Ascendancy—a fitting choice that showcased their blend of melodic hooks and aggressive instrumentation. Frontman Matt Heafy, with his signature vocal versatility, seamlessly transitioned between clean melodies and harsh screams, captivating the crowd with his dynamic range.

The setlist was a masterclass in heavy metal, featuring classics like “Pull Harder on the Strings of Your Martyr” and “The Deceived,” alongside newer tracks from their latest releases. Each song was delivered with precision, and the chemistry between band members was palpable. The dual guitar work between Heafy and Corey Beaulieu was nothing short of spectacular, with intricate solos that left fans in awe.

A standout moment of the night came when Trivium performed “Like Light to the Flies,” where the crowd erupted in a communal roar, singing every lyric back to the band. It was a reminder of the powerful connection that music creates between artists and their fans.

The production for the “Poisoned Ascendancy Tour” was impressive, with a striking light show that enhanced the overall experience without overshadowing the performances. The sound quality at Hard Rock Live was crystal clear, allowing every note and beat to resonate perfectly through the venue.

The energy in the room was unmistakable, with fans headbanging and raising their fists in solidarity. It was clear that both bands had a deep appreciation for their audience, often interacting and encouraging participation throughout their sets.

The “Poisoned Ascendancy Tour” featuring Trivium and Bullet For My Valentine was a night to remember. Both bands delivered powerhouse performances that showcased their growth and mastery of the metal genre.
