Daniel Seavey, the Why Don’t We bandmate turned solo artist, played a 19-song set at the Fillmore in San Francisco on March 27 after a previously cancelled 2024 tour due to some band legal issues. That period saw various Why Don’t We members tied up in non-performing limbo for awhile, but that’s over now, and fans were more than ready to come show support and have a great night on this Second Wind tour.
Throughout the evening the multi-talented singer and instrumentalist showed off his skills on guitar, keyboards, drums and an electric cello, and his range was wide with easy falsettos as he delighted the room full of shrieking fans. Opening with “Waves” and “Sunny Isles,” Seavey happily gyrated and jumped on stage, and stepped out into the crowd to sing amongst his happy fans, even moving up into the Fillmore’s balcony late in the set to sing down onto the crowd.
Halfway through the night Seavey impressed everyone by using his loop pedal to design songs in real time, something he changes up from show to show based on audience requests, with tonight’s track being Hozier’s “Take Me To Church.” Live loopers have recently included Ed Sheeran executing in front of stadium crowds, plus OG wizards like Joseph Arthur and Imogen Heap showing their prowess back in the day, and now Seavey and his live tracking is a nice addition to the group.
Halfway through the OG fans in the house got to hear the Why Don’t We track “Fallin’ (Adrenaline),” which was met with fervent joy. Other favorites were “Sleeping With The Lights On” and “The Older You Get.”
The two song encore ended with “Can We Pretend That We’re Good?” and “Other People,” and then the night was over and people marched happily down the Fillmore’s steps and into the night air.
Seavey’s two openers bear mentioning – kylekelly and sombr – both were great additions to the tour and will soon be commanding headlining rooms of their own.
Seavey is continuing his tour through North America before he jumps to Europe, and all information can be found at www.danielseavey.com and @danielseavey.
