The Italian gothic metal band Lacuna Coil brought their Sleepless Empire tour to Ace of Spades on April 8, 2026, delivering a set that felt grounded in everything they’ve built over the years while still pushing into darker, more layered territory. In California’s capital, the band leaned into the weight of Sleepless Empire— their 10th studio album– where a heavier, more experimental sound reflects the mental fatigue and constant noise of the digital age.
At the core of the performance is the connection between co-vocalists Cristina Scabbia and Andrea Ferro—something that doesn’t rely on theatrics, but on contrast and timing. Cristina carries a clarity in her delivery that cuts cleanly through the room, holding attention without needing to push for it. Andrea meets that with a more direct, heavier presence, stepping in with intention rather than excess. The result isn’t a simple trade-off between voices—it’s a layered exchange that gives each song a sense of movement.
Live, that dynamic becomes the anchor of the set. The newer material sits comfortably alongside longtime favorites, but it’s the way the vocals weave in and out of each other that keeps everything feeling connected. There are moments where the room seems to narrow in on Cristina’s voice, only to open back up as Andrea shifts the energy forward—creating a rhythm that feels less predictable and more immersive.
Having seen them in every setting—from early festival slots to opening for bands like Sevendust to now headlining their own multi-city tour (with several sold-out dates)—what stands out isn’t just consistency, but intent. At Ace of Spades, nothing felt like filler. Every part of the set carried weight, anchored by two vocalists who know exactly how to share the space without ever losing control of it.
