The Kooks made a lot of fans happy on a rainy March 22 in Oakland when they brought their 15-year anniversary show of Inside In / Inside Out to the Fox Theater. Singer Luke Pritchard and bandmates Hugh Harris and Alexis Nunez were in great spirits for this last stop on their 16-city tour, and played an 18-song set over the course an hour and a half that had the audience feeling some deep nostalgia for their much-loved record.
Songs like “Junk of the Heart,” “She Moves In Her Own Way,” “Ooh La,” and closer of the night “Naive” sounded as fresh as ever, and Pritchard starting off the evening solo acoustic on stage singing “Seaside” really set the scene for what came next, and the crowd could not have been happier.
The whole night was a like a mini indie rock festival, with Daisy the Great kicking things off, playing their hearts out and winning over lots of new fans in the room. Then The Vaccines took over and killed it with their energy, playing favorites like “Post Break Up Sex” and “All My Friends Are Falling In Love,” with Justin Young and band headlining their own moment on stage to their fans’ delight.
It was a really good combination of bands and a lot of fun to see live. For the latest touring and band info check out @thekooksmusic, @thevaccines, and @daisythegreatband
