Cannons

At a small venue in the “Lake of the Sky,” Cannons brought the third leg of their Everything Glows Tour to The Hangar in South Lake Tahoe for a night under the stars in the pub’s outdoor beer garden. Normally holding around 800 people, the venue expanded capacity to 1,000 for the night, packing the sold-out show to the brim.

Unable to get a proper photo pass for this one, I brought my little point-and-shoot along just in case I somehow made it to the rail. With only a general admission ticket, I wasn’t counting on it, but somehow I ended up front and center with the VIP crowd, which made an already intimate show feel even more surreal.

Cannons switched up the setlist a bit for this stop, bringing in more songs from their earlier albums compared to the Sacramento show I saw earlier this year. They still kept crowd favorites like “Fire for You” and “Hurricane” in the mix, along with newer songs from their most recent album, Everything Glows. It made the set feel like a really nice balance between where the band started and where they are now.

Even with the temperatures dropping once the sun went down, the crowd kept dancing throughout the night. Cannons have such a polished live sound that it can almost feel like listening to the albums with the volume turned all the way up… just with Michelle Joy standing a few feet in front of you.

I never expected to see Cannons in a venue this small, and that was probably my favorite part of the night (along with scoring a setlist!). The Hangar felt less like a traditional concert venue and more like an oversized backyard party with a really, really good sound system. Seeing a band that normally plays much larger stages in that kind of setting made the show feel a little more special.

Cannons will continue the Everything Glows Tour through the end of October.
