Waterparks came to The Glass House in Pomona, CA on September 20th for one of three secret shows at more intimate venues before they kick off their larger The Prowler Tour across Northern America later this year. Tickets were available only to people who’d bought tickets for bigger shows, and this made for a night of very devoted fans having the time of their lives.
Waterparks is Awsten Knight, Geoff Wigington, and Otto Wood, a trio with enough big sound to fill a stadium. On this evening they took the stage right at 8:30 with no opener, and proceeded to play hit after hit in front of a packed house of about 800 people. They kicked the night off with “Red Guitar,” “Numb,” and “Stupid For You,” and threw in other favorites like “Ritual,” “Tantrum,” and “I Miss Having Sex But At Least I Don’t Wanna Die Anymore.”
In the photo pit we were warned that crowd surfers would be making their way over the barricade, and sure enough right off the bat fan after fan was delivered over the heads of the crowd and dropped into the pit and ushered out. Everybody was respectful, and the Glass House guards looked like they understood the need of fans to surf and dealt with it nicely.
Knight entertained the crowd in between songs, talking about how they’re going to play the Shrine when they come back around this fall (“The Shrine!!”) and acknowledged the hot hot heat of the room (thank goodness for most venues understanding the importance of providing free water for the sweaty masses these days) and was generally super friendly with the crowd.
Pomona was the first of the secret shows, with the next two happening in Evanston IL on September 28th and in NYC on September 30th. Go if you can! Check out all the latest at www.waterparksband.com
