The Korean rock band Rolling Quartz came together in 2019 through the fusion of two former bands, Rolling Girlz and Rose Quartz. Comprising five talented members—Hyun Jung (guitar), Yeong Eun (drums), Ja Young (vocals), Iree (guitar), and Arem (bass)—this all-female group has steadily grown in popularity worldwide. Their second appearance in San Francisco is part of their Stand Up U.S./Canada North American Tour in 2025.

With a growing discography, Rolling Quartz has made impressive strides on the global stage, even breaking into the top five of the U.S. rock album chart on iTunes—an extraordinary achievement for a Korean indie band.

The night at Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, CA, on May 19, 2025, kicked off at 7 p.m. with a surprise opener of Mötley Crüe’s “Kickstart My Heart.” The high-energy start instantly set the tone for an electrifying performance, engaging the crowd with the band’s passion and dedication to their music. Each member shone individually while also delivering a cohesive, tight performance as a group.

Lead vocalist Ja Young was a standout, effortlessly commanding attention with her remarkable stage presence and powerful voice. Tracks like “Higher” from their 2022 self-titled album and “Blaze” from 2021 showcased her vocal range, soaring across the venue with stunning precision.

Their cover of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” demonstrated their boundless energy, and the band’s chemistry on stage was evident throughout. Iree (guitar) and Arem (bass) showed off their mastery of their instruments, while Yeong Eun—small in stature—dominated the drums with a fierce and controlled presence that kept the crowd moving.

Rolling Quartz rounded out their set with a memorable cover of My Chemical Romance’s “Helena,” closing the show with a powerful bang.

As the global interest in Korean indie rock continues to grow, bands like Rolling Quartz are at the forefront of offering a fresh, compelling alternative to mainstream rock.

Despite their charming and friendly demeanor, the women of Rolling Quartz can turn up the heat with a rock performance that’s unforgettable—combining elegance with raw energy in a way only they can. They don’t just know how to rock—they know how to rock HARD and LOUD!
