DIIV came to town for the Noise Pop Festival on February 23rd, playing a late set at Gray Area on Mission in San Francisco, and the packed crowd loved it.
DIIV is made up of bandmates Cole Smith, Andrew Bailey, Colin Caufield, and Ben Newman, and the audience was introduced to each of them with some pre-show big screen talking head visuals, plus an announcement that Andrew Bailey had hurt himself, which explained why he sat in a chair on the stage and played guitar instead of jumping around.
The band started their 18 song set with “In Amber,” and moved through favorites including “Frog In Boiling Water,” “Everyone Out,” and “Blankenship.” The sweaty packed crowd danced and head-bobbed in appreciation the whole time, enjoying their time in the dark venue, unphased by the 10:20pm start time and anticipated sleep deprivation their elder millennial bodies would experience the next workday morning. The encore was great and included “Horsehead” and “Doused.”
Noise Pop brought out two openers for DIIV – Pure Hex and Kraus, both a good match for the night’s energy, with some fans in the crowd specifically there for them.
DIIV isn’t currently on tour but will be playing scattered festivals throughout Europe in August 2025, and all the latest news and info can be found here at diiv.net.
