Godsmack delivered an unforgettable “Best of Times World Tour” performance at the Grand Theatre in Reno, Nevada, on October 11, 2024, showcasing nearly 30 years of rock history. As fans filed into the Grand Theatre, anticipation hung in the air. The venue’s acoustics set the tone for a memorable night, and with a sell-out crowd buzzing with excitement, it was clear everyone was ready for an extraordinary experience.
The stage was outfitted with dramatic lighting and a large video screen that showcased live footage and a video montage chronicling the band’s journey since their inception in 1995. For the intro, fans were taken on a nostalgic journey through album covers, behind-the-scenes glimpses, and electrifying live performances, punctuated by a quirky short film from frontman Sully Erna that added a personal touch to the evening, enhancing the energetic atmosphere throughout the night.
When Godsmack finally hit the stage, it was clear the band was in top form. Frontman Sully Erna, with his unmistakable voice, commanded the audience’s attention right from the first notes of “Surrender” and “You and I,” from their 2022 album Lighting Up the Sky. The video screen depicted images paired with the songs and albums, recreating the history timeline. The setlist was a perfect blend of classics and new tracks, showcasing the band’s evolution over the years. Highlights included fan favorites like “Awake” and “Voodoo,” which sent the crowd into a frenzy.
Godsmack’s performance was nothing short of electrifying. The chemistry between the band members was evident, with drummer Shannon Larkin and bassist Robbie Merrill driving the rhythm with precision. Sully’s banter with the audience added a personal touch, making the concert feel like an engaging rock family reunion. The dual guitars of Tony Rombola and Sully provided a wall of sound, particularly during the heavier tracks, with added visual effects amplifying the intensity of the performance.
Around the midpoint of the show, Sully took a moment to reflect on the band’s journey and express gratitude to the fans who have supported them throughout the years. This heartfelt sentiment resonated deeply with the audience, creating a moment of connection that often gets lost in larger venues.
Sully’s connection to the audience was remarkable, especially during a heartfelt segment dedicated to his ‘Scars Foundation.’ With genuine emotion, he played a poignant piano solo of his song “Scars,” touching the hearts of many in attendance. The atmosphere shifted to one of joy when he invited children onstage to encourage cheers from the crowd—a delightful moment that showcased the band’s commitment to community and connection.
The highlight of the night came with an exhilarating dual drum-off between Sully and Shannon Larkin, who showcased their impressive skills on separate drum kits. The thunderous beats filled the theater, captivating the audience and elevating the energy to new heights.
In lieu of pyrotechnics, which were understandably avoided in the indoor venue, the band unleashed a spectacular finale with confetti cannons and large black-and-white beach balls cascading over the audience, turning the Grand Theatre into a colorful celebration.
As the evening drew to a close, the band delivered a powerful rendition of “Stand Alone,” bringing everyone to their feet. The energy in the room was electric, with fans singing and shouting along, creating a communal moment that encapsulated the spirit of Godsmack’s legacy. It was a night filled with musical brilliance, heartfelt messages, and unforgettable connections—a true testament to why Godsmack has remained a staple in rock music for almost three decades.
Godsmack’s concert at the Grand Theatre was a brilliant showcase of their heavy sound, musical prowess, and deep connection with their fans. With each performance, they reinforce their status as rock legends, and the October 11 show was no exception. For anyone fortunate enough to have attended, it was a night to remember—one that will be talked about for years to come. Here’s to hoping that Godsmack returns to Reno soon, as they continue to be a driving force in the world of rock music.
