The Alameda County Fair welcomed legendary rock band Collective Soul on June 25 for an evening packed with classic hits, heartfelt storytelling, and the kind of infectious energy that has kept the band a fan favorite for more than three decades. From the first song to the final encore, Collective Soul proved that great rock music never goes out of style.

Throughout the night, frontman Ed Roland connected with the audience through more than just music. Between songs, he shared stories about the band’s journey and the artists who inspired them, giving fans a glimpse into the experiences that helped shape Collective Soul’s signature sound.

One of the evening’s most memorable moments came when Roland spoke about the influence of Tom Petty on his songwriting. The band then paid tribute by performing one of Petty’s songs, drawing an enthusiastic response from the crowd and celebrating the lasting impact of one of rock’s greatest legends.

The energy inside the fairgrounds reached its peak when Collective Soul launched into “Shine.” As soon as the opening chords rang out, the audience erupted, singing every lyric as the fairgrounds transformed into one giant singalong. It was a powerful reminder of why the song remains one of the band’s most beloved anthems.

Backed by tight musicianship and undeniable chemistry, Collective Soul delivered a performance that blended nostalgia with fresh energy. Every song was met with excitement, and the band’s passion for performing was evident throughout the set.
