The Moroccan Lounge crowd was ready for Sylo when he took the stage in Los Angeles on January 31 for a 10:30pm start, after opener JACKPAL did a great job warming up the room.
Sylo (formerly Sylo Nozra) is living in Mexico City right now, but talked about how he felt when he first set foot in LA a decade-ish ago and how much he loved it and how life-changing it was after growing up in Toronto, and how he’d planned to move to Los Angeles right before Covid, but then… Covid.
But no matter where he’s living he’s making music, rich electronic R&B that brings up thoughts of Jordan Rakei and Maxwell. Sylo mentioned that the show before this one had been in San Francisco and that the crowd was super into a cover he played, and here the crowd loved it too but seemed more into his original work, singing along with every song. “Alaska” was a highlight, and “FOMO” closed the night as the encore.
Sylo is a charming guy, with a lot of natural charisma and emotion and a genuine humble/confident stage presence. His talent is undeniable, and while spots like Brick and Mortar and The Moroccan Lounge give his fans the chance to see him up close and personal, his voice deserves and could easily capture a bigger room so that more folks could enjoy all he’s giving.
His tour ended in LA, but keep an eye out for all the latest news, pics, and information at @sylooo
