Fu Manchu, one of the most beloved names in the stoner rock genre, graced the stage at Ace of Spades in Sacramento on June 24, 2025, as part of their The Return of Tomorrow U.S. tour. Originating from Orange County, the band features Scott Hill (lead vocals/guitar), Brad Davis (bass/vocals), Bob Balch (guitar), and Scott Reeder (drums/vocals).

Having last seen them perform over a decade ago at Detroit Bar in Costa Mesa, this show was highly anticipated—especially on a Tuesday night in Sacramento.

The evening kicked off with a performance by Dusted Angel, a heavy rock band from Santa Cruz, setting the perfect tone for the night ahead. The crowd was buzzing with excitement, eagerly awaiting Fu Manchu’s set, scheduled for 9 p.m.

As the band took the stage, Hill stepped forward, arms outstretched, and greeted the audience with, “Thank you for coming to the show—are you ready?”

And with that, the night launched into high gear as Fu Manchu opened with Eatin’ Dust from their latest album. Hill and Balch were in full force, headbanging and delivering heavy riffs that electrified the audience. They followed up with Evil Eye, a classic from their 1997 album, which propelled the crowd on a wild ride with its nitro-fueled energy. Reeder’s thunderous drumming kept the momentum going, while Hill and Balch whipped around the stage, creating an exhilarating atmosphere.

The band delivered a powerhouse set that included both timeless hits and fresh tracks from The Return of Tomorrow. Highlights included fan favorites like Eatin’ Dust, Loch Ness Wrecking Machine, Hands of the Zodiac, and Liquify—all from their 2024 double-album release. The set also featured older classics such as King of the Road, California Crossing, and encore staples Mongoose and Boogie Van.

With their tight musicianship and infectious energy, Fu Manchu had the crowd captivated from beginning to end. New songs like Loch Ness Wrecking Machine and Hands of the Zodiac blended seamlessly into the set, showcasing their signature hook-heavy riffs and fuzzy grooves.

Fu Manchu delivered an outstanding performance that reaffirmed their status as a stoner-rock powerhouse, even after three decades. Their riffs were as impactful as ever, and the new material stood strong alongside the classics. Whether you’re a longtime fan or new to their sound, this show was a must-see for anyone who appreciates heavy, riff-driven rock.

A gritty, fuzz-laden performance from a band at the peak of their craft, Fu Manchu’s Return of Tomorrow tour is a resounding success!
