The Linda Lindas

The only way to start a review about The Linda Lindas is to talk about how cool they are. They’re super talented, super young, and played the Fillmore to a crowd full of fans of all ages while being inspiring role models to the youngest ones. So on March 21 in San Francisco the energy was high and the crowd was dancing and singing along, with the littlest fans happy to be out late on a special occasion Friday night seeing the No Obligation Tour. Openers Be Your Own Pet got things off to a great start with their punk set, and all of us in the audience were lucky to see them since they’ve rarely been on the road over the past decade. Once teenage rockers themselves, they’re full of the kind of industry wisdom that only a band who’ve been at it through lots of up and downs can have, and they were the perfect compliment to The Linda Lindas.

When The Linda Lindas took the stage, their 23 song set saw favorites like “Racist, Sexist Boy,” “No Obligation,” and a cover of Green Day’s “When I Come Around” as the first song in the encore. The band’s musicianship was on fire, and the fact that the four of them are all 20 and younger (drummer Mila de la Garza is 14!) is amazing. They traded vocals back and forth so everyone got a turn, and the energy and joy on stage was palpable. Bassist Eloise Wong in particular is a happy spark and was fun to watch bounce around the stage. Rounding out the cast were guitarist Lucia de la Garza and guitarist/vocalist Bela Salazar, and with the combined punk power of all four members onstage, this band is totally unstoppable.

The Linda Lindas continue the US leg of their tour through the end of April, and their latest news can be found on Instagram at @thelindalindas.
