Jordan Rakei and his band came to The Fillmore in San Francisco on the evening of November 10th with The Loop tour, celebrating his latest album release of the same name earlier this year.
Multi-instrumentalist and Londoner by way of New Zealand, Rakei was in great form for the show, moving between several keyboards placed around the stage, to front and center at the mic, with his 5-piece band supporting him and smiling the whole time. The stage felt homey with rugs and lamps placed around, with the band spread to the corners with two percussionists and a bassist framing the back of the stage and guitarist and keys to his sides.
We heard great tracks like “Mad World,” “Freedom,” “Flowers,” and my super favorite “Clouds.” San Francisco got a few special extra songs that fans also got at the Royal Albert Hall show, but I’m not sure all recent US dates saw – “Forgive” and “State of Mind.” The fans in the crowd were rapt and were tuned into the vibe of of the night the whole time, excited to be in the presence of Rakei’s soaring vocals and instrumental talent.
Jordan Rakei is a unique performer with a unique sound, but if you had to make a comparison you might say he’s something like a musical baby born of James Blake and Jamie Woon – a big compliment.
San Francisco wrapped up The Loop’s North American tour, but dates continue in Japan and South Africa in November. For all the latest information, check out www.jordanrakei.com.
