The Mission (The Mission UK to fans in the US) came to San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall on May 9, 2024 and played an excellent 15 song set that took the fans in the crowd through decades of hits that everyone loved and stayed until the end to hear. When googling “the mission uk,” the band’s website comes up saying simply “A rock band,” but I think their goth and post-punk fans would argue it’s not as simple as that.
Bandmates Wayne Hussey on vocals (whose vocals were fantastic and stronger than ever,) bassist Craig Adams, guitarist Simon Hinkler and drummer Alex Baum were on point and tight together, which makes sense since Hussey and Adams have been playing as bandmates since their early Sisters of Mercy days. Together they took fans through favorites like “Deliverance,” “Butterfly on a Wheel,” and “Tower of Strength” which the crowd was thrilled to hear.
After the San Francisco stop the band headed to Cruel World in Pasadena for an epic gathering of goths, and will continue on the road for several months. If they’re anywhere near your town it’s a great night out with a storied band that is playing together stronger than ever.
