Danny Brown brought the Quaranta Tour to a packed Regency Ballroom in San Francisco on April 4, 2024. The Detroit-born rapper is touring in support of his latest release Quaranta and was supported by Bruiser Wolf and Alice Longyu Gao.

I arrived just in time to catch hyperpop star Alice Longyu Gao’s engaging and unique set, which featured beautiful harp ballads, comedic lyrics, and undeniable stage presence. The crowd seemed a little unsure of her at first, but by the end of her performance mosh pits had opened up and plenty of hands were in the air clapping along.

Around 9:30, Danny Brown took the stage and began with a series of songs from Quaranta, beginning with the title track. Dressed in a floor-length robe and gigantic rubber boots, he looked like a supervillain as he paced back and forth across the stage and flawlessly delivered bar after bar in his trademark style. The crowd was very receptive and rapped along to every word.

My highlight was hearing his verses on a series of songs from Stop Scaring The Hoes, his 2023 collaboration project with JPEGMAFIA. The crowd went crazy as they screamed and moshed to songs like “Lean Beef Patty,” “Steppa Pig,” and “Burfict!”. Other songs played included “Dirty Laundry,” “Ain’t it Funny,” and “25 Bucks,” his track with the electronic pop band Purity Ring. Towards the end of the set, he also brought out Bruiser Wolf to perform their collaboration “Y.B.P”.

After “Grown Up,” he exited the stage before re-emerging for a brief encore. He took the time here to address the crowd and share how grateful he was for the support, and he even teased that his next album is currently in the works before concluding the set with “Side B [Dope Song].”

The Quaranta Tour will continue to snake its way across the US and Europe in the coming months, finishing up with an appearance at Glastonbury Festival in the UK.
