On this balmy July evening, the legendary sounds of Starship reverberated through The Venue at Thunder Valley in Lincoln, CA. Harking back to their roots, the band’s lineage traces all the way to the inception of Jefferson Airplane in 1965. The band’s metamorphosis led to the birth of Jefferson Starship in 1974, and then a renaming to Starship in 1992, with this 2023 lineup called Starship with Mickey Thomas. The decades have seen numerous lineup changes and shifts in style, but the music’s vitality keeps keeping on.

The present Starship lineup boasts Mickey Thomas on vocals, Darrell Verdusco on drums, Phil Bennett on keys, Jeff Adams on bass, John Roth on lead guitar, and Cian Coey on lead/backing vocals.

The 9-song setlist at The Venue spanned their career, from ’70s favorites like “Jane,” to ’80s hits including “Find Your Way Back,” “Sara,” and “We Built This City.” The show also delved into the ’60s with renditions of “White Rabbit” and “Somebody to Love.”

Starship’s legacy is due to evolution and enduring relevance. The mastery of their craft, coupled with a commitment to exploring new territories, ensures that they remain a force to be reckoned with. As they continue to soar, Starship’s musical journey knows no bounds and their fans are happily going along for the ride.
